2010 Toyota Highlander and Venza Earn Insurance Institute for Highway Safety ‘Top Safety Pick’
TORONTO, ON - June 2, 2010 - The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has announced that the 2010 Highlander and Venza have each earned “Top Safety Pick” status. The “Top Safety Pick” is the highest safety designation awarded by the IIHS. To qualify for the award, a vehicle must earn the highest rating of “good” in the IIHS’ front, side, rollover, and rear impact tests and be equipped with electronic stability control. The IIHS testing was made more stringent in 2010 with the addition of the rollover test. To earn a “good” rollover rating, a roof must be able to support the equivalent of four times the vehicle’s weight compared with the current federal standard of 1.5. In the IIHS testing, the Highlander roof withstood a force equal to 4.74 times its vehicle weight.

TOYOTA CANADA ANNOUNCES VOLUNTARY SAFETY RECALL OF CANADIAN ONLY OPTIONAL ACCESSORY “TRAY-TYPE” FLOOR MATS IN CERTAIN TUNDRA AND HIGHLANDER/HIGHLANDER HYBRID VEHICLES
TORONTO, ON – April 16, 2010 – Toyota Canada has announced a voluntary safety recall affecting approximately 4,774 units of the Toyota “tray-type” floor mat sold as an optional accessory for certain 2007-2010 Tundra, 2008-2010 Highlander and 2008-2010 Highlander Hybrid vehicles. When the “tray-type” floor mat is unsecured or not properly installed in the driver’s position, there is a potential risk for the accelerator pedal to get stuck in the wide open position. The optional accessory “tray-type” floor mat was sold and distributed in Canada only – it is not available in any other market. At this time, Toyota is asking customers to remove the optional accessory “tray-type” floor mat from the driver’s position and not replace it with any other floor mat. Customers may also contact their Toyota dealer for assistance. Toyota Canada reminds all of our customers that only one floor mat – either the Toyota carpeted floor mat or a genuine Toyota accessory floor mat – that is compatible with the vehicle should be installed in the driver’s position using the proper installation instructions.
